Abstract

The Industrial activity is an important aspect of the economic activity of any country due to its contribution to provide job opportunities and increasing the national income. This study tries to analyze the spatial elements of the asphalt industry in Kurdistan as one of the industries that have grown significantly during the recent period due to the development that the region witnessed in construction and urbanization which was motivated by the inevitable increase in the population. The increase of population led to increasing demand for paving roads and surfacing them along with other projects that require asphalt as a main component.

The main goal of this paper is to present a historical survey of the asphalt industry in the study area and analyze its constituents such as natural, human and geographic factors and then to determine its geographical distribution in the provinces of the region as well as locating the areas of industrial concentration in these province.
