Conceptual metaphors of happiness in Kurdish and English

Abstract

This study is an attempt to identify and present different conceptual metaphors of happiness in Kurdish and compare them with the different metaphors that Kovićses has presented in English for the Emotion of happiness.

In this paper also followed the Kovićses approach to analyze the happiness emotion data, which is expanded of the approach of Lakoff and Johnson, but its more focuses on the analysis of human emotional metaphors.

The metaphor of the concept of happiness in Kurdish language it contains several different conceptual metaphors; The productivity of this type of conceptual metaphors is due to the existence of many different sources domain, that play a role in conceptualizing the emotion of happiness.

In comparing the data of Kurdish and English language, it was found that there are (11) same conceptual metaphors between the two of those languages, also in Kurdish language there are (11) metaphors of happiness, which are not found in English language, in contrast in English language we can see (4) conceptual metaphors, which are not found in Kurdish language.
