Abstract

This paper intends to explore the policy of EFL departments in developing academic writing courses in public universities in the Iraqi Kurdistan region. The qualitative research approach was carried out in the research. The data was collected through a semi-structured interview. The heads of the scientific committee of four EFL departments in a governmental university in Kurdistan were selected as the participants of the study. Afterwards, the obtained data were analyzed via thematic descriptive analysis. However, the results showed that the EFL departments have straightforward policies in developing and offering academic writing courses, but they need to be improved and adjusted.
