This research delves into the intricate interplay between individuals’ psychosocial constitution and the linguistic-cultural milieu, critically examining the profound impact on cognitive and affective dimensions of acquiring English as a foreign language. The focus point lies in the formidable challenge posed by cultural dissonance, which impedes the seamless acquisition of English and establishes a complex nexus between socio-cultural variables and language learning. Methodologically, the study employs a comprehensive approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative methodologies to elucidate the findings. The diverse participant cohort, consisting of 38 Kurdish university students at Charmo University, undergoes scrutiny through meticulously designed questionnaires and insightful interviews as primary data elicitation instruments developed by Lev Vygotsky. This approach unveils a rich tapestry of insights into the intricate dynamics of sociocultural dimensions in English language learning. Empirical findings illuminate the complex ways sociocultural determinants, including parental influences, religious affiliations, and the spectre of political instability, intricately influence students' developmental trajectories in English language proficiency.
