Abstract

This research looks at how social factors affect the start and worsening of long term illnesses, mainly focusing on the most common ones in KRI such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. The study shows that these physical illnesses are strongly affected by social conditions. The researchers spoke with seven patients and seven doctors who specialize in chronic diseases. The information gathered was then studied using the biopsychosocial model. The results showed that financial difficulties, facing social stress, dealing with problems in life, and gender differences made it harder for most patients to control their illness. The doctors said that social factors are very important, and their experience shows that when a patient’s social life gets worse, their health usually gets worse too. Therefore, it is necessary to adopt a healthcare model that treats both biological and social aspects as equally important in understanding and addressing chronic diseases.
