Turks are an ancient community that has been active in the Middle East since the Middle Ages. The Turks, who made important contributions to the political, military, economic, social, cultural, and literary life of the region, were also influenced by the life of other nations living in this geography. Mutual interaction has created divisions and new main branches in the Turkish language and society over time. One of these branches is the Iraqi Turkmen, who broke away from the Turks of Turkey politically and geographically. The disintegration of the political system of Ottomans that gathered many Turkish and Turkmen elements under the same roof accelerated this break. With the establishment of Iraq, Iraqi Turkmen were recognized as the third ethnic community that made up Iraq after the Arabs and Kurds, and they gained a new role in the political and social life of Iraq.
