Genocide in an Islamic Perspective: Anfal Campaign as a Case Study

Abstract

This research aims to envisage Kurdish genocide from an Islamic perspective, as Anfal campaigns have been examined as a case study. The current research has relied on the inductive approach to collect Islamic jurists’ comprehension, who works as a member of a significant number of Islamic institutions in the Islamic world include the Islamic Fiqh Council, International Islamic Fiqh Academy, Al-Azhar in Egypt, International Union of Muslim Scholars, and their elaborated definition of genocide, although the Holy Quran does not mention the term of genocide as mentioned. Likewise, both analytical and comparative approaches are adopted to analyze several standpoints of jurists; in the meantime, a comprehensive comparison is conducted to accomplish ultimate results regarding the subject at hand. Thus, the findings would prove that the Holy Quran has made no reference related to the concept of genocide the way it has been addressed by the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (CPPCG) of 1948
