The Degree of Student's Involvement in the Social Studies Textbook for 8th Basic Schools Students in Kurdistan Region-Iraq

The study aimed to identify the extend of students' involvement in the social studies textbook for the 8th grade at basic schools in Kurdistan region- Iraq in terms of the presentation of the content, figures and diagram, and educational activities contained in the textbook, by it is three units: Geography, History, Citizenship for academic year(2017-2018). To achieve this aim the researcher utilized Romey's method to calculate the variables of students' involvement coefficients, and Chi-square test to investigate the differences in involvement degree of the textbook according to educational units.
The results of the study showed revealed reduction of students' involvement in presentation of the content in geography, history, Citizenship units, and did not located within the acceptable range adopted by Romey's, it is values by the range were (0.03 – 0.20), the results also showed revealed required involvement in figures & diagrams regarding history unit it is value reached (0.5), but the textbook does not involved students in figures & diagrams in geography and citizenship unit and the coefficient are less than the required level of the involvement, likely the educational activities are less than required level except citizenship unit with coefficient (0.78)
