Abstract

This study examines Türkiye’s security concerns, strategic implications, and policy responses toward Iraq and the Kurdistan Region over the 2014-2024 timeframe, with an emphasis on its counterterrorism strategies and its influence over the region. Based on neorealist theorization, the study to analyze how Türkiye’s policy reveals applicability of both offensive and defensive strategies to make sure its national security and regional dominance. Also, using a qualitative research approach, the study is based on secondary data such as scholarly articles, government reports, bilateral agreements and international organization analysis. Visual examination of diplomatic and military initiatives reveals how Türkiye’s military strategy, diplomatic standing and economic interests evolved and how the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and bilateral security agreements intersected to tackle the PKK threat. The results highlight the nuanced nexus between Türkiye’s security imperatives, the KRG’s balancing strategy, and larger regional geopolitics. This study enhances knowledge of Türkiye’s regional strategies and their impact on counterterrorism operations, sovereignty and stability across the Middle East.
