Geographical assessment of the recognized border crossings in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and the importance of geopolitics

Abstract

Border crossings are considered sensitive, lively, and strategic areas geographically in studies of political geography. The importance of the study is that it analyzes the geographical and economic positions of the border crossings as the main economic. The aim of this study is to analyze and identify the geopolitical importance of the border crossings in the Kurdistan Region, which is based on the geographical distribution of the border crossings and their role in the exchange of trade in terms of the type, amount and the volume of income between the Kurdistan Region and its neighboring countries.

   As a result of conducting our research, we have found that the border checkpoints have played a significant role in supporting the country's economy through their annual revenue. So, Ibrahim Khalil border checkpoint has been the first one in terms of annual revenue, and Haji Omaran border checkpoint has been number one in terms of annual tourist movement. The applied method in this study is the method of the force analysis and analysis compound.
