The Impact of Socioeconomic Factors on Students' L2 Development in Kurdista

This study has been conducted to explore a number of social factors impacting students' language learning fluency in secondary and preparatory public schools of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. The aim of this study is to find the influences of socioeconomic status (SES), social factors on students' English language in the Region. The factors included for this study are social class, geographic residence, economy and religion. In the context of the Iraq-Kurdistan region, there has been a lack of concern with the macro level in learning a language. The issue is that some external factors seem to affect students' language proficiency. Such factors could hinder or pave the way for students to communicate a foreign or second language effectively. A survey was used for gathering information. Participants in the study were from grades 7, 8, 10 and 11 of public schools.
