The main crisis in Iraq has begun since its formation until present. The main obstacle for the ongoing crisis is the lack Iraqi national identity. The main factor of lack of formation is due to United Kingdom of Britain’s interference in the sovereignty of Iraq and by insisting that provinces of Iraq must stick together such as Basra, Baghdad, and Mosul (the Arab section of Iraq and the south of Kurdistan). Also, United Kingdom has forcefully imposed these geographical changes in Iraq without paying attention to people’s demands and needs in Iraq. Furthermore, the United Kingdom brought an outsider to rule the country as the first king of Iraq after the World War I. After that the United Kingdom of Britain attempted to create a national identity for Iraqis through military force, but this attempt was unsuccessful. Since then, all those who tried to govern Iraq forced the military oppression to establish the long last Iraqi Identity and this model military oppression became the norm to run the country called Iraq.
The aftermath of all the events that occurred in Iraq for the past hundred years since its establishment have made it difficult for this comprehensive national identity to form in the boundary called “Iraq”. In today’s Iraq, its people view each other like foreigners, and there is a visible deep division among the Shias, Sunnis and the Kurds. Finally, to end this division among all the components that make up Iraq is a formation national identity.
