Ahmad Muhammad Ismails novel “Bahari Res “the black spring” is one of the novels which represent the so-called anfal tragedy. It includes various dimensions such as national, political, cultural, and geographical dimensions.
The novelist narrates the tragedy, which happened to the Kurdish people, via his characters. Through the narration technique he tried to give a certain identity to each of his characters on the basis of their participation in the events. This giving identity springs from choosing character names, their descriptions, their roles, and their discourse and ideas. It indicates that the novelist has chosen a certain name for each of the characters to give them a special identity, which coincides with their given role. Form another angle, he gives a nicer image of his characters by describing their ideas and perspectives.
