Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Prevalence and Association with some Socio-Demographic variables among Women in Kurdistan Region/ Iraq

Purpose: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a common psychiatric disorder that is often overlooked in treatment settings. The study aimed at measuring the prevalence rate of BPD and then examining the statistical differences of BPD according to socio-demographic factors’ age, Academic achievements, social status, occupations and governorates’ among women in Kurdistan Region/ Iraq.
Methods: 500 women participated from four governorates’ Erbil, Suleymaniye, Duhok and Halabja’ ‘N=125 in each’. For BPD scale, the study relied on the exploratory method and a part of McLean Self-Screening Instrument for (MSI-BPD).
Results: the prevalence of BPD was significant among women. However, there was no significant difference in the level of BPD according to age, but there were significant differences in the level of BPD and academic achievements, social status and occupation among participants. Those women who were ‘illiterates, divorced, not-occupied and those women who were from Erbil’ suffered more from BPD when compared to others.
