Cohesion and Pragmatic Deixis in Mr. Massoud Barzaniۥ s Political speech: the Tragic Anfal of Badinan Area as an example.

Abstract

This study is entitled Cohesion and pragmatic Deixis in Mr. Massoud Barzaniۥ s Political speech: the tragic Anfal of Badinan area as an example. It aims to study cohesion of political speech in one of the significant speeches delivered by Massoud Barzani in commemoration of the tragic Anfal of Badinan area. Further, it tackles the cohesive factors such as the use of references, connectives, ellipsis, substitution, repetition and etc. Moreover, it explains the classification of deixis made by George Yule such as personal deixis, spatial deixis and temporal deixis. Thus, it focuses on the clarification of the linguistic elements in which their specific meanings cannot be determined until they occur in contexts.  In addition, it employs a descriptive analytical approach to analyze this speech. Eventually, a conclusion followed by resources is given at the end of the study.
