Abstract

The Spatial suitability model is one of the important functions of the geographic information system because the work of this model is to determine the best location for a job according to the available data for the purpose of serving the residents of an area in the future ,and to address many problems in the city, so it led to the attraction and interest of researchers and prompted them to conduct a lot of research on this topic .The study's objective is to pinpoint optimal residential locations in Soran City using GIS, contributing to the formulation of strategic development plans for the city's land use, particularly in guiding future housing projects. Employing an inductive approach with scientific analysis, the study is structured into two main components: research methods, results, and discussion. Key findings include the city's classification into five suitability levels based on a spatial suitability model. Notably, approximately 22% of the city, primarily comprising inner neighborhoods, exhibits a very high suitability level, while around 11% of the city, representing outer neighborhoods, demonstrates a very low suitability level. These insights are crucial for informed urban planning decisions.
