Abstract

We find elements of thought and the ideas of people in the epic and heroic stories that remain to us, stories that tell the sacrifices and bravery, the murders or death of the heroes, and the characters within those stories.

The Shahnameh and the Song of Roland are stories which are full of positive and negative characters, heroes, wars and catastrophes, emotions and human spirit. Sometimes, jealousy causes the death of a man or a fiery war between two countries, but a patriotism can end the war. Thus, good and evil are in perpetual combat.

In the Shahnameh and the Song of Roland, we encounter practically every aspect of human life: greed, revenge, envy, superiority, adversity, love and hatred, patriotism and treason, arrogance, pride and death. All of these can be found in these two great works.
