Characteristics of Threatened Women in Sulaimani Shelter: A Field Study

چکیده

Shelters have become safe place for those women who are either at risk of or have been subjected to violence. In general, domestic violence against women exists in all societies, but the degree of violence and frequency is different from one another.

This study aims at revealing the factors for maltreating women and causing them to seek help from Shelters. The study is based on a quantitative research methodology, using a questionnaire in Sulaimani Shelter. The research was conducted from 12th June 2017 to the 8th March 2018. The research sample consisted of 114 female respondents. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS. The study mainly found that social factors such as romantic relationships, infidelity, eloping (Radu kauten), rape, homelessness, age difference, and under the threat of violence and killing are the main factors that force Kurdish women to escape from home and use the Shelters as a safe place until solving their problems
