Inheritance is one of the legal issues which require an elaborate and precise legal regulation in the State. In Iraq, the authorities regulated inheritance issues based on the religious orientation of the citizens until the beginning of the republican era but the state issued the Iraqi Civil Code in 1951 which included a number of rules for the transfer of the right of conduct on public land and were later utilized for the distribution of the property of the deceased as well. These rules remained in force until some years after the enactment of the Iraqi Personal Status Law No. (188) in 1959 and their function was similarly the transfer of the right of conduct on public land and the distribution of the property of the deceased.
