Abstract

This study is entitled “Compound Nouns of Central Kurdish from the Perspective of categorization Theory”. It is an attempt to analyze compound nouns from the perspective of categorization theory.  The field is within the framework of Cognitive Morphology based on Zaki Hamawand's (2011). The importance of this research is the originality as the first work in Kurdish language on the mentioned field above. The aim of the study is to categorize compound nouns based on human experience and mental abilities according to the theory. The compound nouns used in the study are library data that are used as sources in this study. The paper consists of an introduction and two pars with conclusion and a list of references. In the first part, a summary of cognitive morphology and categorization theory is presented. In the second part, the relationship between the head and the modifier is explained in terms of the substructures' concept of Kurdish compound nouns according to the theory. As a result of the research, it has been possible to divide the Kurdish compound nouns that determine the form of the word into Prototype and Periphery according to their similarities.
