Multicomponent societies are a common phenomenon encompassing most societies in the modern world. These societies can be organized constitutionally, politically, and administratively according to the concept of a simple, unitary state, or according to the concept of a federal state. The constitutional principles for managing diversity and the underlying political philosophy differ between simple unitary states and federal states. This study examines the impact of societal diversity on the form of the state in two sections. The first section addresses the impact of diversity on the structure of a simple, unitary state, while the second section focuses on the impact of diversity on the structure of a federal state.
